Our Grade 7 students enjoyed an educational field trip to Clifton Heritage Park, the Pompey Museum, Fort Charlotte and the Queen’s Staircase as part of their Social Studies unit on the Transatlantic Slave Trade and abolition.
The trip gave students the opportunity to explore how The Bahamas connects to the wider history of the Atlantic world and how people from different parts of the world, including Europe and Africa, helped shape Bahamian history, culture and traditions.
At Clifton Heritage Park and the Pompey Museum, students learned more about the experiences of enslaved people and their determination to be free. At Fort Charlotte, they watched a reenactment that helped bring their classroom learning to life.
Students completed worksheets along the way to consolidate their knowledge and develop a better understanding of the topics covered in class.
The day also included a visit to the Queen’s Staircase and a well-deserved ice cream treat.
It was a valuable opportunity for students to learn outside the classroom, explore Bahamian heritage and make connections between their Social Studies learning and the historical sites around them.
